Guard Your Login

Your FIU login is more than just a username and password it is a key to your academic, financial and personal information. Keeping it secure is essential. That starts with using strong passwords that are hard to guess and unique to each account. It also means using Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) with Duo, which is required to access FIU systems. You can help keep your information safe and support a more secure campus community.

  • Strong Passwords

A strong password is one of the easiest ways to protect your account from hackers. Weak or reused passwords make it easier for attackers to break in and steal your personal information. To keep your FIU login secure, you can follow these tips:

    • Use a mix of characters: Combine uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. For example, try something like P@nth3rPride!2025 or GoFIU!C@mpus#Life these are much stronger than simple passwords like "fiu2025".
    • Avoid personal info: Don't use names, birthdays, or common words that can be easily guessed. Instead of using "Roary123", go for something like Blue&Gold#Victory88.
    • Make it long: Aim for at least 12 characters. A passphrase like FIU$Library@Night2025 is secure and easy to remember.
    • Don't reuse passwords: Each account should have its own unique password. Reusing passwords across sites increases your risk if one account is compromised.
    • Use a password manager: These tools help you create and store strong passwords securely, so you don't have to remember them all.
  • Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

Even the strongest password can be compromised with Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) it adds a second layer of security to keep your account safe. At FIU, MFA is required for accessing university systems, and we use Duo to make the process simple and secure.

With Duo, after entering your password, you’ll confirm your identity using a push notification, or a code from the Duo app. This extra step helps block unauthorized access, even if someone gets your password.

    Why it matters:

    • Stops most phishing and credential theft attacks
    • Protects your academic, financial, and personal data
    • Only takes a few seconds to verify your login
