Recognizing Phishing Methods

Phishing attacks aim to deceive you into revealing sensitive information, and knowing common tactics can help protect both you and the university's data.

Understanding phishing threats

  • Impersonation

Scammers pose as trusted university staff or departments.

  • Urgency

They pressure you into acting quickly, claiming urgent action is needed.

  • Request for information

Phishers ask for sensitive details like login credentials.

  • Job scams

Fake job ads trick people into sharing personal information.

  • Website cloning and redirection

Fake websites are made to look like official university portals.

  • Smishing and vishing

Scammers use text messages (smishing) or phone calls (vishing) to steal information by pretending to be university employees.

  • Email spoofing

Fake emails appear to come from legitimate university contacts, retailers or delivery services.
