FIU must remove all technologies listed in the State University System (SUS) Prohibited Technologies List from university-owned devices and block any related network activity.
Banned Apps and Software
On March 29, 2023, the SUS of Florida Board of Governors issued an emergency amendment to Regulation 3.0075: Security of Data Related to Information Technology Resources, which prohibits the use of the following technologies:
- Tiktok
- VKontakte
- Kaspersky
- Temu
- Tutor.com
- Camscanner
- SHAREit
- Alipay
- AliExpress
- Deepseek
Blocked App on an FIU Device?
Prohibited technologies may not be downloaded, installed or used on any FIU-owned device or accessed through FIU’s network. Departments and units must immediately uninstall these applications from all university-owned equipment.
These technologies also may not be used to conduct university business, including marketing or advertising.
If you manage an FIU-affiliated TikTok account, we recommend downloading your TikTok archive and considering alternative platforms such as Instagram.
You’re not currently required to delete your FIU-affiliated TikTok account. It may remain inactive to preserve your handle and content.
Prohibited technologies allowed on personal devices?
While not currently banned from personal devices, FIU strongly recommends that students, faculty and staff, including those who receive a university stipend under FIU’s Cellular Phone Policy, avoid installing or using any software listed in SUS Regulation 3.0075.
Please be aware that data collected through these applications may be used for fraudulent activity and could put the university’s network at risk.
