FIU follows the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998 (Public Law 105-304), including rules for downloading, uploading, or distributing copyrighted digital material, such as data, audio, video, and software, using university systems.
FIU is considered a content-neutral internet service provider for websites and online materials over which it has no editorial control. This includes content within the fiu.edu domain or FIU-assigned IP ranges, such as pages created by faculty, students and student organizations.
FIU Student Copyright Violations
First Offense
- A Copyright Violation Notice will be sent to your FIU email
- You must sign and return the notice to PC 534A.
- All illegally obtained copyrighted material must be removed from your computer.
- Failure to return the signed notice will result in your residence hall network access being disabled.
Second Offense
- Your residence hall network access will be disabled.
- You must remove all copyrighted material from your computer.
- You will be required to meet with the Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution and ITSO.
