Virtual Private Network

A VPN (Virtual Private Network) encrypts your internet connection, hides your IP address and helps you safely use public Wi-Fi. FIU’s free VPN is available to all students, faculty, and staff. It’s ideal for secure browsing, especially off campus.

Connecting to FIU

FIU’s VPN connects your device to the campus network, allowing you to securely access university systems and resources that are normally restricted to on-campus connections. It makes it appear as if you're on campus, even if you're not.

  • Privacy and Security

VPN encrypts your internet activity so hackers, advertisers or others can’t monitor what you're doing online. This is especially important when using unsecured Wi-Fi networks.

  • Remote Work & Online Classes

Whether you're in a coffee shop, airport or hotel, unsecured Wi-Fi can put your data at risk. Connecting to FIU’s VPN helps protect your information and ensures secure access to university systems.

FIU uses the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client to provide secure on and off-campus access to university resources.

VPN Requirements

To Connect, your device must have:

  • Two-Factor Authentication
  • Antivirus Software
  • A firewall enabled
  • Hard drive encryption (employee only)

When you connect, the VPN Posture module runs a quick system check to enforce these security settings.
