Two-factor Authentication (2FA)

Protecting your FIU account requires more than just a strong password. Two-factor authentication adds an extra layer of security by requiring two forms of verification before granting access to your account.

Why use 2FA

Cyberattacks are increasingly targeting user credentials. 2FA helps protect your identity and personal information, and it also safeguards sensitive university systems and data. By requiring a second form of authentication, 2FA makes it more difficult for attackers to compromise accounts, dramatically reducing the risk of unauthorized access.

How it Works

When you sign in to your FIU account, you’ll enter your username and password as usual. Then, you’ll be asked to verify your identity through a secondary method.

Verification Methods

  • Duo Push (Recommended)

Duo Push is our most popular two-factor authentication method because it’s simple and reliable. Just download the Duo Mobile app and approve login requests with a single tap.

  • Tokens or Passcodes

Users can verify their identity with a secure passcode generated by a physical token, mobile device or provided by a support administrator.
