What's Happening?

Several universities and colleges have been in the news lately, but not for academic reasons. Students are being caught illegally downloading unauthorized copies of music, movies, and other copyrighted material. FIU wants to make sure you are not one of these students. This website is meant to show you the rules of the road concerning legal and illegal downloads.

This CAN Happen to You!

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has sent preservation notices (pre-litigation notices) to FIU, identifying several students who have been caught illegally downloading and/or sharing files of copyrighted material. These preservation notices also explain the consequences students may face as a result of these illegal downloads. If found guilty, students may face fines between $750 and $30,000 per file!
