Security Incident Response Team (SIRT)

The SIRT is a group of FIU specialists whose responsibility is specifically to manage IT security-related incidents. The SIRT will be composed of individuals from different areas of the University with different areas of expertise. When an incident occurs, this team will handle the investigation and responses. Each member of the team or their appointed backup must be reachable 7/24 in case of an outbreak that threatens the availability of critical FIU IT resources. Team members' responsibilities include quickly identifying and assessing sources of attack and installing patches or fixes when and where needed.

They are also responsible for alerting the FIU Community and Security Operations of likely threats via the IT Security Office mailing list (itso-list) or any other methods deemed necessary. It is highly recommended that anyone responsible for IT Support subscribe to the security mailing list. This does not exclude other users of the FIU community from also subscribing to the list.

To subscribe to the Team's security mailing list, send an e-mail to Majordomo@fiu.edu with subscribe itso-list in the body of the email. Once you are added to the list, you will begin to receive mailings about various Team activities and incident responses. Since SIRT works more in a reactive operational mode, meetings will be called when necessary.

If you have any questions about the SIRT, please send an email to security@fiu.edu
